The biggest reason I know PPC is so popular is because it's a way to get traffic to website without a lot of development or putting work into the site.

All one needs is one page and PPC and you can drive as much traffic as you want.

The downside is, once you stop paying, the traffic stops. And it can get expensive.

PPC is pey per click plan, which is mid-way of pay per transaction(good for sponsors) and per per impressions(good for sellers). And that is the reason it is popular.
