I'm not sure why that would happen the way you say. It could be that you are addressing a very competitive topic, and it is not uncommon for your status within Google search engine to change that fast. 

As far as article submission, it might depend on the quality of your article. It also may depend on the Page Rank of the article directory to where you submit. It may depend on a variety of factors that I don't know about yet too.

I guess the quality of article you submitted or the content in your site has deproved. As there is no way unless you spam that your site deprove in ranking after article submission
